How does it work
The photons of light from the sun excite the electrons in the solar cells into a higher state of energy allowing it to act as charge carriers for an electric current. This energy is known as a Direct Current (DC) 12v 24v 36v etc.
what voltage do we need
In order for this energy to drive our appliances we need a higher voltage (drive) and therefore an inverter is used to change the DC current to a 220v Alternating current ( AC). This current is on the same frequency as our grid (ESKOM).
advantage of solar power
In South Africa we are fortunate to have most sun hours per day. According to NASSA statistics Pretoria has an average of 6.04 hours sunlight per day all year long.
Traditional methods
• Steam Turbines (Coal)
• Internal Combustion (Generators)
• Nuclear Power (Radioactive)
Eco friendly methods
• Wind Turbines
• Photovoltaic (Solar)
• Hydro
• Biomass
Tradition VS New Generation
The energy generated from the solar panels is stored in batteries as a DC current and extracted with an inverter, inverting it to an Ac current. The modern method is direct application of the energy into the grid via new generation inverters
